Naples is the capital of the region Campania it is situated along the bay and has spectacular views of the sea and the neighboring ancient city of Pompeii and the romantic Island of Capri. Over 2,500 years ago Naples was founded by the Ancient Greeks as Neapolis, meaning New City. The city is synonymous with spaghetti, buffalo mozzarella and is the birthplace of pizza.

Buried by a thick blanket of ashes, the ancient city of Pompeii was destroyed by the sudden eruption in 79 AD. of the volcano Vesuvius, fossilizing thousands of citizens in less than twenty-four hours.
For almost 2000 years Pompeii was hidden from the modern world and only in 1748 was it slowly reintroduced thanks to the excavation campaign initiated by Charles of Bourbon, the king of the Two Sicilies.
